PP+K Wins Best Of Public Service And Seven Awards Alone For The ASPCA At AAF Fourth District ADDY Awards Competition

May 17th, 2010

Pyper Paul + Kenney won the “Best Of Public Service” Charlie Award at American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) Fourth District ADDY Award competition for their “Speechless Dog & Cat Television Campaign,” which they created for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).  This television campaign was judged to be the highest scoring work in the Public Service category.  The District competition included over 1,400 entries from around the state of Florida, as well as the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean.

Pyper Paul + Kenney dominated the highly competitive public service category with their work for the ASPCA by winning seven total awards, including six golds.  They won nearly half of the golds that were awarded in the entire public service category just for the ASPCA alone.

The memorable anti-cruelty campaign was developed around the ASPCA’s themeline, ‘We are their voice.’  The two different TV commercials focused on a dog and a cat respectively, as each walked up to a standing microphone that was purposely set up to their height.  For nearly 25 seconds there was a spotlight on them, as the animals awkwardly pawed at and fidgeted around the microphone obviously unable to speak.  This vividly illustrated how speaking out against animal cruelty is not an option for animals, so we must be their voice.

“It was a very simple yet powerful concept that really registered emotionally with people,” said Tom Kenney, PP+K Executive Creative Director.  “We showed people the innocent helplessness of animals and how they truly depend on us to be their voice”

Overall Pyper Paul + Kenney won the most total ADDY awards and the most gold awards of any agency at the southeastern regional-level (AAF) Fourth District ADDY Award competition.  Pyper Paul + Kenney finished with 22 total awards, including 10 golds and 12 silvers, winning nearly double the amount of the second place finisher.  Two months earlier, Pyper Paul + Kenney had dominated the local AAF Tampa Bay ADDY Awards competition winning the most awards there too, including 44 total awards, plus five “Best Of The Bay” Awards for the highest scoring work in five different categories.

All of the agency’s 22 winning District entries will be forwarded on to the AAF National ADDY Awards, which is the third and final leg of the ADDY competition, held on June 12th in Orlando.  Last year, Pyper Paul won three national ADDY Awards and the previous year they won seven national awards, finishing with the sixth most ADDY Awards in the United States that year out of 120 agency finalists in the competition.
